No man will know or pinpoint a date when Christ returns. You can pinpoint the end of the world, but you couldn’t give me tomorrow’s winning lottery numbers! You haven’t read your bible! A whole lot a people are making tons of money on people’s fears.

In the hysteria to come over all the prophesies about 2012 Mark Hitchcock has written a book about what to expect the world rumours to be and what the Bible actually says about it all. I must admit that it took me a long time to read the first half of this book. I expect that that was because I already knew about all the different myths and prophecies so I found that first section rather tedious. I think that those people who are not familiar with all the different versions and views will find it very interesting and enlightening. The last half I found very interesting for it focuses on what the Bible says about the end days and what we should be paying attention to. The last chapter gives constructive instruction on how the Bible says we should prepare for the end days and concrete arguments about why we should ignore most of what will be broadcast about the 2012 myth, where these myths differ from the Bible, and what to expect.

This book was written to capitalize on the hype surrounding the 2012 movie. If you already know about the Mayan calendar, don’t buy this book. If your eschatological position is of a pre-millennial, pre-tribulation rapture and you already know why you believe that, don’t buy this book. For anyone else, you may find this book interesting or disagree with what the author says.

Dr. Hitchcock repeats a lot of previously known information that has been on the internet for some years and collects this material succinctly around the bigger question of whether it matches up with Bible prophecy. He hints that it may, but that in the end Mayan or other extrabiblical sources should not be put on a par with biblical authority. No argument with that, but another new book that came out this month that I thought was far more “fresh” in the sense that it actually presents a lot of new, if not outright disturbing information is the book “Apollyon Rising 2012″ by Dr. Thomas Horn, which digs up many other cultures who also fixated on the year 2012 and how this is even incorporated into the design of the US Capitol Dome, the Great Seal of the United States, and the stories of the ancient Watchers, the Giants in a fantastic way. I recommend you read both of these books – the one by Dr. Hitchcock and the one by Tom Horn for the best combined material from Christian scholarship on the subject of 2012 and Bible Prophecy.

When I first bought this book, I thought it would mainly be about the subject of 2012 research. When I got to the middle of the book, the author was mainly preaching about the bible, and why we should ONLY get our answers from the BIBLE, and not from 2012 researchers/authors of 2012 books. He calls it the 2012 craze. It seems the author believes that what is said by scientist, researchers, Nostradamus, new agers, and the mayans is all crazy talk nonsense. He means well, and seems like a good Christian Man, but he needs to be more open minded to other possibilities, and similarities to other religions, researchers, Nostradamus, Hopi, and the Mayans. The ancients, Nostradamus, etc was warning us of a catastrophic future if we don’t live in peace with each other & the earth (climate/global warming). We should take all of these warnings very serious if we want to continue living here on earth, and continue future generations.
